Chicago

We’ve been talking about going to Chicago for awhile, but we’ve been putting it off since we only really had one motivation for going, and tiki bars seemed like a questionable reason to fly halfway across the country. But then suddenly it was August, and Kristan’s birthday was coming up, and going to Chicago for tiki bars for Kristan’s birthday is totally reasonable. Continue Reading…

The Marin Half Marathon

So at Christmas, Carly asked Kristan if she’d ever do another half marathon. The last one seemed like enough, so it wasn’t really a priority to ever do again… until Kristan got an email from Carly on New Year’s Day asking if they could do a half marathon together. “Sure, why not?” said Kristan, and so they signed up for the Marin Half Marathon in April and started training together. Barcelona

Full disclosure: we went to Barcelona basically because we wanted to wander around and drink vermouth. So we wandered, and drank vermouth with tapas, and then wandered some more, and drank more vermouth with more tapas.

Mallorca

We knew that we couldn’t celebrate our marriage without some island time (see Fiji and Maui), so after we left Zurich we headed to Mallorca. Why Mallorca? Because Kristan had always wanted to go to Ibiza, and Mallorca is like Ibiza, except with fewer clubs, and because the Park Hyatt Mallorca just opened last summer and it looked like such a cool hotel that she couldn’t get it out of her head once she saw it. (Neither will you.)

Zurich

It’s that time of year again, when our thoughts turn to love and celebration and travel. After finding a really great flight to London we decided to head to Europe and visit Zurich, Mallorca and Barcelona for our second anniversary. We didn’t have much of an agenda for Zurich – just stay at a fancy hotel, check out the lake, go to a tiki bar. The usual really….

Mardi Gras

A few years ago we spent a few really great days in New Orleans and ever since we’ve had it vaguely in our heads that we should visit again for Mardi Gras. With our trusty Southwest companion pass and some points at Hyatt, we realized it would be an easy and inexpensive excursion following our long-overdue Nashville visit this year. So we went! Nashville

It’s been awhile since we both visited Nashville, so when we were thinking about heading to New Orleans for Mardi Gras we decided to swing by Tennessee on the way and visit with Carly, Josh and Luna. We walked, we talked, we ate – all the necessary components for a wonderful catch-up visit! Continue Reading…

SF Beer Week 2017

San Francisco Beer Week is a whirlwind of beer, food, and other adventures that’s been happening for the past nine years. We make a point of trying to go to at least one event every year, even if that’s just wandering over to the Belgian place five minutes away that nobody ever seems to know about and sneaking in a sour away from the crowds. (Because, truly, Beer Week events can be completely, utterly packed.) This year we decided to give it our all by actually RSVPing for a paid event at the start of the week and then curating a list of events that would be easy to get to, even if they weren’t easy to get into. The fact that we got started three days early with Cellarmaker’s first Beer Week (pre-)release is a pretty good indicator of how much we went for it….

Sundance 2017

Sundance, Sundance, Sundance… We’ve been attending for years and yet always something new happens to us. This year was something of a snowpocalypse, which made our ski-fiend host happy but made getting around Park City a little difficult. Big shout-out to all the wonderful people who gave us a ride so we didn’t have to walk in a blizzard!

New Year’s Eh

Some people might tell you that Max’s birthday is the day before New Year’s Eve, but you shouldn’t believe them, oh no. Max’s birthday starts the night before New Year’s Eve, at 8pm, and only ends when the fireworks go off. If it started any earlier, Max would spend his birthday with two canceled flights, a four hour drive to Spokane, and two delayed flights, and that wouldn’t be a birthday at all!
